Article By Wilson ReitterNo, a shooting star is not an actual star. It’s a small piece of rock or dust that goes through our atmosphere. Also know as a meteor. Meteors travel at around 30,000 mph in the atmosphere, with a temperature of around 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. “ Most meteors burn up in the atmosphere before they can hit the ground.” If the meteor was to hit the ground it would then be a meteorite.
